Bring your lawn chair and your dancing shoes!

One of our main visions at the Old Oak Coffeehouse is creating community - and the House Blend Band Summer Concert Series has become a favorite community event! Come join us on 2nd Avenue on the following dates:

May 18th

June 15th

July 20th

August 10th

September 14th

All shows are 6-9ish pm

This summer we are proud to bring back mid-show performances from The Niwot Gig, Niwot’s own music school for young musicians, for some of our shows. Stay tuned for those dates!

Important Information for the concerts:

  • 2nd Avenue from Murray to Franklin Street will be closed for the duration of the event to provide plenty of room to move around the event and to dance your socks off, if you so desire!

  • B.Y.O.C- Bring Your Own Chairs - We will have a limited amount of seats; so bring your own lawn chair to set up a comfy spot!

  • Ordering will take place at the door and pick-up at the big window, to ensure ease and efficiency of getting orders out!

  • Spaghetti will be served again! We couldn’t celebrate this summer without The Old Oak’s famous spaghetti. And this summer, we are excited to be partnering with Slow Food Boulder County to provide salads from local farms for each show! (Donations to support the farms and Slow Food are much appreciated!)

  • As in previous concerts, there will be no cover charge

Who is The House Blend Band?

The House Blend Band was created in 2019 by owners Michael Tomich and Patty Machen. The band is a house and a crowd favorite that has grown over time; and the performances have too. They went from a three-person band performing for a small crowd in the shop to shutting down 2nd Avenue for their larger performances, with 8 band members. The band has grown very organically, adding new members and talents over the last few years. When listening to the band you will hear an eclectic, interesting, soul-moving, and toe-tapping range of music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s!

“Our band is about the most eclectic group of people to ever assemble in the name of music,” said Michael Tomich. The band’s passion and love for music is very evident in every song and performance. They love that the concert series has turned into such a fun community event for Niwot!

Meet the Band

Michael Tomich

Piano - Guitar - Vocalist

Owner of The Old Oak Coffeehouse and the founder of The House Blend Band, Michael plays piano and guitar, and is one of the lead vocalists. But more importantly, he is the father of Paris, who helps create the “familial harmonies” that are such a rich part of this band! Michael played music with his 4th and 5th grade students for over 25 years, but now, in retirement, is playing for himself for fun and to create community for Old Town Niwot. In addition to performing for the band, Michael has also purchased lots of new sound equipment for this year to further develop sound quality.

Patty Machen

Mandolin - Violin - Percussion

The shop’s other owner, Patty Machen, loves the community that the shop and the music have created. Originally a violist, she now plays violin and mandolin… and she’s added some percussion to her repertoire this summer and is having a bunch of fun with that! These days you can see her working a lot around the shop after her retirement from teaching.

Paris Tomich

Vocalist - Harmony Vocalist

Vocalist and incredible Harmony Vocalist - She has been making up harmonies for her father since she was 6 years old. She has a full-time career, four children, and yet still finds time to rehearse and perform with The House Blend Band.

Andrew Bunin

Bass - Background Vocalist

Andrew was the first to join the band when they were nothing more than a few people wondering if they could put something together. Michael heard him perform one afternoon at the Old Oak and decided that he would be a perfect addition to the band. Andrew has been instrumental in helping hone the direction of the band.

Joshua Thomas

Drums

Joshua moved to Boulder County in 2014. He has been sharing his drum sounds all over the front range playing in many local bands as well as performing corporate gigs to further his experience as a drummer. With an emphasis on smooth grooves and pocket playing you won’t hesitate to get on the dance floor

Bob Cannistraro

Guitar

Bob’s life changed when his older sister brought home the 45 of “Walk, Don’t Run” by The Ventures. At home he was already being exposed to a lot of Ricky Nelson (with legend James Burton on lead guitar), Duane Eddy, Ray Charles and Dave Brubeck, and The Beach Boys followed soon after. All this before The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan and we know how that changed the world.

Bob had his first band at age 11 (at Mom’s Garden Party), and soon was playing in many bands throughout high school and college. Music took a back seat to Bob’s career in technical sales until he moved to Boulder in 1993 and he quickly got into the local scene playing in a number of groups including Kim Reese and White Bred Funk and The Mary Russell band.

Bob founded Colorado’s premier Surf-Rock band, The Beloved Invaders, in 1995 and “The BI” continue gigging regularly. Bob also plays bass in the house band for a popular weekly Blues Jam and has other side projects.

Eric Ottem

Trumpet - Harmonica

Eric joined the band next and has been, along with our other horn player, a wonderful addition to the House Blend Band. He has brought the band to a new level of sophistication and sound.

David Mitchell

Woodwinds

Last but definitely not least to join the House Blend Band is David Mitchell. David brings the woodwinds sound that fills out the horn section and allows them to play many Chicago songs as well as many others! Another great addition to the band making them complete.

Christian Alejandro Garibay

Sound - Audio Technician

Christian is a Longmont native and a University of Colorado, Boulder graduate with a degree in Media Production and a minor in Media Studies. He has always loved working with sounds and would one day like to utilize his skills to work in a sound studio. Joining Michael’s team is a big step toward achieving this dream by helping him apply his skills as an audio technician. You’ll usually catch him in the back mixing their live sound, as well as helping to mix and master their music. As a musician himself, he also hopes to release his own music with his own band.
